Mrs. Dalloway 171-181

A picture of an Edwardian graden party. Clarissa's party is indoors, and at night, and the book takes place after the Edwardian era, but it's the nearest image I could find.

Write a haiku about tonight's reading.

Party with splendor
An interruption breaks joy
Off to solitude

Alive Clarissa:
he might not know, but you do
feel and want and care.

Diverse personas
Bounded by their own conscience
But still united

Artificial cheer,
with the past revisited.
She seems to have lost.

A whirlwind of thoughts
Society or old love
What are life and death

deep thick commotion
losing herself in this
which has defined her

her party well clothed
she is someone else but it's
not worth the effort

Walking and talking
To everyone, wishing just
To be with her friends.

A superficial
Can't tell what is real at all
Loss, confusion, loss, loss

Clarissa's party:
Tries to forget her worries
But is still conscious

Haiku:

The face alive and
superficial to hide the
Solitary heart

Blossomings of frill,
know not this sorrow of death
without that window.

How ephemeral joy is
You are everything

Yay!Haiku!

This is neither life
Nor living; this is repression,
And love is too much.

I wrote two haikus because I couldn't fit everything in one:

Clarissa used to
Love to speak of poetry
And politics too

Has she lost the game?
Maybe she had chosen wrong
Is life over now?
